A while ago, the Spencerport Blog had a post about the land next to Walgreens. I thought it would be good to build something like a TJ Max on the land, but that was all the development I would like to see. I didn’t like the idea of having a lot of stores or restaurants next to Walgreens, just a TJ Max and that’s it. The proposal they currently have for the land next to Walgreens along Route 31 is a gas station and car wash and a fast food restaurant and a child care facility. The question I have is whether the town can do something to keep the land from being overdeveloped. There’s been ten new businesses in 2023 and for what I can see, the village or town government had very little to do with these additions. It was simply the free market doing its thing and I think that’s good. With regards to the land next to Walgreens though, I wonder if there’s something the town can do to limit the amount of development there. I’m not sure it’s a great idea to make a law to limit development, or if the town should buy the land and keep it grass, but I know that a lot of residents see Spencerport like a small town and having a lot of development would diminish this quality.
